// CONNECTION HELP

Fix your NAT type

Good news — this is usually a 5-minute fix. Follow the steps below and you'll be back in the game with an Open NAT.

What's a NAT type?

OPEN

You can join and host with anyone. This is the goal.

MODERATE

Mostly fine, but you may occasionally have trouble joining some players.

STRICT

You may struggle to join games or party up — this page fixes that.

The easy fix — turn on UPnP (try this first)

Log into your router (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 in your browser), find UPnP under the Advanced or WAN settings, and switch it ON. Then restart the game. Most people are done here.

Still strict? Forward these ports to your PC

  1. Find your PC's local IP. On Windows: open Command Prompt, type ipconfig, and note the IPv4 address (it looks like 192.168.x.x).
  2. Open your router's Port Forwarding page. It's usually under Advanced, NAT, or Firewall settings in the same router menu as before.
  3. Add the ports below, all pointing to your PC, then save & restart. One rule per line/range, with your PC's local IP as the destination.
Modern Warfare 2 ports
UDP3074, 3478-3479, 4379-4380, 27000-27031, 28960
TCP3074, 27014-27050

Handy tips

  • Use a wired connection if you can — it's faster and more stable than Wi-Fi.
  • Reserve your PC's IP in the router (DHCP reservation) so the forwards don't break on reboot.
  • Always restart your router and the game after making changes.

That's it — relaunch the game and check your NAT type. If it says Open, you're all set. See you in the lobby.
